Billing Inquiries

When is my bill read?

Based on your exact location, you are assigned a specific day of the month that your meter is read. Your meter is generally read by the same reader each month and on the same day that we read your neighbors' meters. As a courtesy to our readers, we ask that you keep shrubs, trees, and other yard items clear of the meter to allow easy access in reading. If you own dogs, we ask that you keep them restrained for the safety of the readers.

When is my bill due? What if I need to change my due date?

Your due date is generally determined by the day of the month that your meter is read. Of course, if that date is not convenient to you, contact our billing department to arrange for a more convenient date. Also, we have the capability to transfer funds directly from your bank account or charge your credit card so that you don't have to worry about sending in payment. Our billing representatives have information on this service.

What if I think my bill is too high?

The charge for electricity service is based on the number of kilowatt-hours you use each month. Unlike many electrical providers, Irwin EMC charges a flat rate for each kilowatt hour during all times of the year and does not raise the rate you pay in the middle of the summer when the demand for energy is at the highest point. Even though our business is to sell electricity, we want you to use it as efficiently as possible. We have an energy advisor on staff who will conduct an energy audit of your residence at no charge. If you are concerned about the cost of your electricity, contact our Energy Services Department for an energy audit appointment. We also offer an On-Line Energy Audit tool.
